My Final Ident

Here is my final ident. I used final cut pro to produce my ident. I then used multiple filters and effects to create an effect, ident and attempt at making it look professional. The ident took me about an hour to edit and to correct my timings to make sure that it was in time with the royalty free backing track.

Ident Research

Here I have looked at analysed to companies ident's, Lionsgate and Paramount. I have chosen 2 different idents to show how idents can differ between different films released by the company. 

Lionsgate first originated from another production, Cinepix Productions. Later, they advanced the company, introducing Lionsgate. The Lionsgate ident has been displayed at the beginning of many horror films, such as, ‘American Psycho’ and ‘Cabin In The Woods’.

 



As we can see from the Lionsgate ident above, it is the most recent version, produced in 2011.

The ident begins with a faded black screen, then transitions to the mechanics found inside a clock, a sudden shot change appears and the clock begins to rapidly zoom out to a door, which has a keyhole. The door then opens and we see the Lionsgate ident, surrounded by dusky clouds in the sky.



Conversely, Lionsgate produced a similar ident, initially for Horror films. The ident is similar to the original as of the mechanics and clock and the beginning. However, the color scheme changes to a dusky brown, which may connote the shadowy atmosphere to Horror films. Furthermore, at the end, the Lionsgate ident is surrounded by fiery and smokey clouds and the font becomes red, which connotes the sense of evil within a Horror film.

In Jennifer's mothers will, Jennifer is left a jewellery box with nothing within it, except a single bracelet hidden in a secret compartment, along with a journal full of unexplainable pictures, notes and strange markings. As soon as she inherits these items, things surrounding her appear to become abnormal. Over the next 36 days as Jennifer discovers more & more about her mothers death & what she was left behind, she may discover that it may be to late...

Justification:
- In the research that I have conducted, my audience showed that they were after a supernatural/psychological film and that is what I have tried to achieve here. The film will meet to typical sub genre conventions.

2 Minute Film Opening Analysis

In this task, I had to analyse the first 2 opening minutes of a horror film. I decided to analyse the film 'Cabin In The Woods'. I used the on line subscription 'Netflix' in order to view the movie. I would use this 2 minute analysis to help me establish my own opening of my horror sequence.

Horror Genre Research

For this task, I had to conduct my own research within the horror genre and its certificate rating's. For my research I have looked in detail at the development of horror films, the iconography of horror, certificate ratings and sub-genres within horror.

For my first piece of research, I looked into key horror movies throughout time looking from 1896 to the present day. I looked into how film patterns have changed over the past 100+ years and how themes, and certain aspect of film has changed. An example of this would be, some horror titles such as 'King Kong' (1933) would be considered horror in its time, but would no longer class as horror during today's film market. I have looked at different type of film, including British and International cinema to see if any aspects were different or the same compared to thee typical stereotype of horror.Completing this task, I found it very interesting researching different varieties of horror and how trends have established through time. It has widened my knowledge of the horror genre already, just by identifying sub-genre trends and how audiences reactions and audience taste has changed.
I decided to use the programme 'Dipity' to create a timeline 'flipbook' of Horror. I felt, visually that it would be clearer to see how film had changed since time had passed. Also, it allows you to view the original trailer of the film, and some allow you to watch the full feature length film.

Iconography of horror was the second are that I explored into. I searched on line 'Iconography of Horror' and found a variety of websites to extract information from. I presented my results in a short power point as I felt it clearly showed the results and research that I had gathered.

3. Certificate ratings



From this point onwards, I then researched into certificate ratings and what would make what film it's rating that it had been given. I understood how the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) appointed a film its rating and what requirements a film must meet to be classed between a 'U' all the way to an '18R'. I also looked into  how films were classified before the 'U, PG, 12, 12A, 15,18, 18R' system was introduced.

As you can clearly see from above I have looked into and researched different types and aspects of sub genres of horror. I was surprised that there was a large variety of sub genres although some genres overlap with each other which I was expecting.
